Banned Books Week is Sept. 25 - Oct. 2, 2010

From http://bannedbooksweek.org/info.html
"Banned Books Week is the only national celebration of the freedom to read. It was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in schools, bookstores and libraries. More than a thousand books have been challenged since 1982. The challenges have occurred in every state and in hundreds of communities. Click here to see a map of book bans and challenges in the US from 2007 to 2009. People challenge books that they say are too sexual or too violent. They object to profanity and slang, and they protest against offensive portrayals of racial or religious groups--or positive portrayals of homosexuals. Their targets range from books that explore contemporary issues and controversies to classic and beloved works of American literature."

So, don't ban a book--read a banned book! You may be surprised to find one of your favorite books on the list!

Mrs. Hobratschk created a Banned Books Week display in the library.  Come by and check it out!

Banned Books Week (no, don't ban a book--read a banned book!)

Barnes and Noble Shopping Spree!

Great News! Ms. Loper won a $600 shopping spree at Barnes and Noble! If there are any titles, authors, genres, or subject areas that you would like to see in the Clear Falls Library, please e-mail me or leave a comment on our blog.  I hope to go shortly after school starts.  So, check out our catalog  (see link on the right), see what we have and what we're missing, and leave a comment as to what to buy!  Ms. Loper will let you know, via the blog, when she goes to B&N, so if you'd like to join her there and help pick out books, you're more than welcome to come along.

So, are you wondering what your library looks like? Are there any books on the shelves? Is there anything "good" to read? Absolutely! Check out these photos of the library and then you can click on the library catalog (under Library Links) to see what sorts of books we have. We should be ready and open for business the first day of school!

Welcome to the Clear Falls HS Library!

Hello Clear Falls HS Students!

I trust that you had a wonderful summer and that you are ready to come on back to school. And what a school you will be coming to!  CFHS is a beautiful space and the library is ready for you to come, check out books and magazines, read, research, or relax.

To start things off, what did you read over the summer?  Anything that you would recommend? Anything that you would definitely not recommend?  Place your responses in the "comments" section.

Photos of the library are coming soon!
